Joinville, Brazil, and SkillsLabor / eduQarte: Social-emotional skills and project collaboration
SkillsLabor and eduQarte were invited by the municipal education authority of the southern Brazilian city of Joinville to take part in a discussion on social and emotional skills, key competences and a potential project presentation.
At the invitation of Joinville’s municipal education authority, SkillsLabor had the opportunity to engage in a fascinating and mutually enlightening exchange on current educational issues. Joinville is a city in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil and has a population of around 700,000.
The focus was on current development and priority issues in Brazil and, in particular, within the local community. We were welcomed by the head of the department and various heads of division from the Education Department.
It quickly became clear that the topic of cross-curricular skills is also a highly topical development issue in Brazil.
Socio-emotional skills
In particular, the promotion and assessment of socio-emotional skills form part of the local development strategy in the education sector, with the aim of providing even better support for learners and teachers, so that the children and young people in the community can be supported in their personal development in a more targeted and comprehensive manner.
SkillsLabor and the eduQarte association were represented by José Oberson Mau, founder of SkillsLabor, and Prof. Dr José Raimundo Facion, a member and supporter of eduQarte Skills and a renowned Brazilian psychologist and neuroscientist. The presentation of the services and tools offered by SkillsLabor and eduQarte met with great interest, given the community’s current focus on educational and school development.
Scientific support and quality management
The aim is to strengthen contact and dialogue in order to explore the possibility of cooperation within the framework of a pilot project in the near future. Particular attention was paid to the issue of academic oversight and support with a view to ensuring high-quality work and strengthening the academic quality factors of objectivity, validity and reliability of the educational and digital tools.
Exchange State Paraná
The focus on enhanced cooperation for a potential pilot project in Brazil, given the topicality of the subject, is reinforced by this exchange. This also relates to an earlier preliminary discussion, including a project presentation, with the management of the Paraná State Education Department and their potential interest in the project and in cooperation. During the informal discussions with Paraná, the main focus was on compatibility with the national curriculum.
The visit to Joinville took place in December 2025.
